US woman takes Tesla Cybertruck for appraisal at CarMax and it gives her a jaw-dropping offer: 'I was not expecting that'

This US woman took her Tesla Cybertruck to CarMax and the offer she received was not what she was expecting.

The Cybertruck’s price tag has been swinging dramatically.

It’s never been cheap, but it went from being very expensive to slightly less expensive to really expensive again.

With that in mind, her appraisal doesn’t make much sense.

The MSRP of the Tesla Cybertruck has always been on a roller coaster

First released in 2023, the first EV pickup from Tesla immediately drew attention thanks to its unique design and its higher-than-expected price tag.

When it was launched, the MSRP was dangerously close to six figures.

But the hype was through the roof, which is why people ended up paying over sticker in the secondary market.

Tesla even decided to add a no-resale clause at some point.

From the unique stainless steel exoskeleton to the shatter-resistant glass, the Cybertruck was built to withstand even the toughest challenges.

After that, the price went down, and you could even buy an entry-level truck for ‘just’ $59,990.

Now it starts at $79,000, which is why this content creator found the answer she got from CarMax surprising.

CarMax’s appraisal was crazy

Curious to see how much her Cybertruck would fetch in value, content creator EV & Chill took her Tesla Cybertruck to Carmax for an appraisal after amassing 14,000 miles on the odometer across a year of ownership.

In her own words, the Cybertruck was in ‘good condition’, with new tires and wrap on the exterior.

“Some people say that wraps can hurt a car’s resale value. Personally, I think the wrap kind of helps,” she explained.

Well, it did.

Expecting to get between $57,000 and $60,000, she drove to her local CarMax site and, after the appraisal, the YouTuber explained that the offer given by CarMax came in at a mighty $66,000, without even taking it for a test drive.

“I was not expecting that,” she said.

We should note here that a brand new All Wheel Drive Cybertruck starts at $79.990, so the deal really wasn’t bad at all.

This is what CarMax had to say about it

We reached out to CarMax and their answer was refreshing.

“We’re happy to hear this customer was pleased with her appraisal offer,” a CarMax representative told Supercar Blondie.

“At CarMax, we’ve designed our appraisal experience to be simple, transparent, and on your terms.”

The creator also looked at other valuations, including private parties of around $72,000, and Kelley Blue Book, which valued it at around $69,000.

Even though she wasn’t looking to actually sell her car, it is always useful to have the figure for future reference, and it’s also proof wrapping the car was a good idea.
