The owner of a Tesla Cybertruck says he has been given a brand–new battery pack for the EV despite only clocking up 40,000 miles and has revealed what he thinks is behind it.
The Tesla Cybertruck battery warrant covers whichever occurs first: eight years or 150,000 miles with a ‘minimum 70 percent retention of battery capacity over the warranty period’.
However, the EV maker has previously declared that owners ‘almost never have to replace the battery’ in their cars.
But that wasn’t the case for this Cybertruck owner from Montana.

The Tesla Cybertruck battery was replaced after 40k miles and the owner has a theory why
The owner posted in the Cybertruck Owners Club Forum to say that his ‘low VIN’ EV had been scheduled for a service for a minor issue with the retractable cover back in April.

However, the service was supposed to include a bunch of other work, including a battery pack replacement.
As he had a long trip coming up, the owner asked if he could defer the battery pack replacement and was told that wouldn’t be a problem.
Fast-forward to this month, and the man finally took his Cybertruck in for the service and was told that the plan was still to replace the battery pack, despite him doing just 40,000 miles in the truck.
The man said the replacement after just 40,000 miles was ‘pretty awesome’ and he praised Tesla for being so accommodating when it came to booking the replacement.
The battery pack had around six percent degradation, which was actually better than both his Model 3 and Model Y at the same point.
But the owner has a theory on why it was swapped.

This time last year, Tesla found cell dents in some of its Cybertruck battery packs and began shipping them back to the Gigafactory in Texas to have them replaced.
Although the man didn’t receive a recall notice, he said in the forum he thought it could have been part of a ‘silent recall for cell dents’.
He’s not the only Tesla owner to get a ‘surprise’ battery replacement
This Cybertruck owner isn’t the only person to get a surprise battery replacement.
Back in July, a man using the name Ferrara posted in the same forum to say that he had gone to Tesla with a minor issue with his truck but ended up with a whole new battery.

The man said the wireless charger in his truck stopped working properly, so he reached out to see if it could be fixed.
But as well as sort that problem, Tesla also replaced his battery and said they wanted the old one for ‘engineering research purposes’.
The man was perplexed by the move and said it had left him concerned that the original battery had some issues he wasn’t aware of.
