Tesla is finally accepting trade-ins for the Cybertruck, but there’s an issue.
For the first time since its launch, Cybertruck owners will now be able to trade in their vehicle.
That’s the good part, but unfortunately, there’s also some bad news.
Because these trade-ins may come at a cost.

When it first came out, in November 2023, everyone wanted a Cybertruck.
People were ready and willing to pay incredibly high prices, with huge markups, just because the demand was off the charts.
Now, it seems, you can’t give them away.
Tesla is reportedly sitting on an unprecedented Cybertruck inventory surplus (some say 10,000+ units), which explains why they’re finally accepting trade-ins.

That’s the good news.
The bad news is it still might not be a great financial decision.
According to CarGurus, a platform that sells cars but also does market research, used Cybertrucks generally go for $65,000-$85,000 depending on the model.
These values may be acceptable for the (few) people who bought the cheapest variant at MSRP, but most people didn’t.
Most people paid a huge premium to get the truck.

A majority of Foundation Series and Cyberbeast owners paid well over $100,000 for a truck that’s now worth a fraction of that.
So anyone wanting to trade in their Cybertruck should probably get ready to hear an evaluation that doesn’t really match what they had in mind and were hoping for.
Why?
Elon Musk’s polarizing political involvement certainly played a part, but the reality is Cybertruck is probably simply too out there to be considered a ‘normal’ vehicle.
This explains its price trajectory.
The incredible buzz and frenzy when it first came out died away quite rapidly, and now people have just moved on.
Like they’ve grown out of it.
