A Massachusetts buyer faced major setbacks after a Tesla Model 3 battery died despite a ‘minor’ issue claim on the EV.
YouTuber Rich Rebuilds had realized the battery in the Model 3 had died, and that was going to necessitate a rebuild and a rethink for the EV.
Replacing the battery was going to lead to an expensive repair bill. And it turned out the person who sold them the Model 3 had ‘lied’ about its condition.
A video on the YouTube channel shows Rich and his team remove the battery ahead of its replacement, but other issues soon arose when the new battery arrived.

What was wrong with the Tesla Model 3 battery?
At the start of the video, Rich revealed that the Model 3 was bought with a ‘rebalance’ issue in the battery.
Rebalancing ensures that all the cells in the battery charge and discharge evenly.
You can rebalance the batteries to ensure that this is the case, should an issue arise.
However, Rich found out the battery in his EV was completely dead.

An attempt to charge it at a Tesla Supercharger saw it get stuck at 14 percent.
This meant they had no choice but to get a replacement battery for the car.
A test shows it has virtually no usable range and clear imbalances within the cells.
So, they sourced a replacement battery from Electrified Garage in Amesbury.
Other issues arose with the Tesla Model 3
But replacing the battery turned out to be the least of Rich’s worries.
Removing the battery was a complex affair, with the seats and interior trim needing to come out.
With those removed, they take out the old pack and put the new one in.
When they did this, though, they found out that the new battery was not compatible.
Their Tesla Model 3 is only a rear-wheel drive car, but the battery pack was for a dual-motor all-wheel drive EV.
So it’s down to two choices.
Either replace the Tesla Model 3 battery again or get a front motor and convert the car into an all-wheel drive electric vehicle.
Rich ends the video saying that they will upgrade the Model 3 to an all-wheel drive car.
They hope that this time-consuming process will boost the performance of the car, and perhaps even help its reliability.
