What happens when a family-sized EV like the Tesla Model X goes head-to-head against two incredible supercars — a Ferrari and a McLaren — in a straight-line drag race?
If you know your cars, you might have an idea about the answer, but this was certainly an interesting race.
The Tesla is extremely capable and can take on even the best of modern track cars.
On the other hand, we’re talking about two very fast cars that a family SUV can’t possibly beat, right?

Tesla Model X vs McLaren 750S and Ferrari 296 GTS
These guys from the YouTube channel Carwow decided to pit the Tesla Model X Plaid against a McLaren 750S and a Ferrari 296 GTS in a straight-line test.
They also made a video about it, which showed one clear winner despite the best effort from all three machines.
This is by no means a fair drag race, but it isn’t supposed to be — just like this BMW M8 Competition going against a Model 3 Performance.
Before we get into how and which car won, here’s some context.
The McLaren 750S is a track beast featuring a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 powerhouse that sends out 750 horsepower and 590lb-ft of torque.
Meanwhile, the Ferrari 296 GTS houses a hybrid powertrain with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6.
All in all, the 296 GTS is capable of pushing out 830 horsepower and 545lb-ft of torque.
The star of today’s show, however, is a Model X Plaid capable of 1,020HP and 1,047lb-ft of torque from its three electric motors, making it the only AWD contender.
Although the Tesla clearly has a numbers advantage, there’s still a catch.
You see, the EV weighs 5,432lbs, which is considerably higher than the more expensive 3,062lbs and 3,725lbs McLaren and Ferrari, respectively.
But will the added weight be enough to make it a slow performer?
After all, it can reach 60mph from a standstill in a mere 2.5 seconds.
One clear winner
The YouTubers began with a straight-line race followed by a braking test.
During the first run, the Model X beat both supercars, but not by a decisive margin.
That’s why they tried again.
Further, the second run didn’t change the results, and Tesla just about won, with Ferrari in second place.
Although we don’t have all the numbers, all contenders finished the quarter-mile mark in 10.1 seconds.
It was a pretty close finish for all three cars, but then again, the Model X could only win in a straight-line race like this.
Both supercars would demolish the Tesla in a track race, but shenanigans like this drag race make things more interesting.
