This American man has opened up about the reality of living off-grid as he drove the length of South America in his Tesla Model X.

It’s no small feat to drive the length of an entire continent, and nobody knows that better than YouTuber Everyday Sandro.

Sandro had started his road trip off near the Arctic Ocean in Canada and was now down in Chile.

That’s a long way to go in one car – what had that whole experience been like for him?

Living off-grid in a Tesla Model X comes with its challenges

Road trips are good fun, but they can come with a lot of bumps in the road, if you pardon the pun.

For one man, it was the freezing conditions of his journey that challenged him and his Tesla Model Y Performance.

Road trips also come with great rewards, as they did for this man who drove from Saudi Arabia to Norway to see the northern lights.

But you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who has racked up more miles on a road trip than YouTuber Everyday Sandro.

He’s been driving thousands of miles to the bottom of South America in a Tesla Model X.

And this is no ordinary car – it has been converted into a camper, complete with solar panels mounted on the hood and a compact kitchen.

But even with all of those nifty amenities, life on the road was bound to come with its challenges.

Navigation issues were particularly troublesome, as the Tesla UI sometimes thought the car was still in North America.

This left Sandro relying on onboard maps for routing, which was understandably frustrating.

The Model X was also showing some signs of mechanical wear, including a coolant error and a front seat restraint/airbag warning.

That’s not to mention that the additional weight of the solar panels, which left the frunk struts struggling to lift.

But for all of those issues, the trip had brought a lot of benefits.

The perks of living life on the road

As you might expect, a lot of the benefits that came with this type of traveling couldn’t be measured in miles or kilowatts.

It was the opportunity to explore and meet new people from different cultures, which proved to be most rewarding.

But in addition to that, he’d chosen a great car to camp out in.

Camp Mode provided him with a controlled climate that allowed for sleeping practically anywhere, and there was enough space for a comfortable night’s rest.

There weren’t a lot of miles left on his journey down south, but there was still Argentina yet to see.

“I feel very, very lucky that I get to do this trip and see all the different places,” he told his viewers.
