An EV Dodge Charger and Tesla Model Y took to the track in a drag race and in the end there's a clear winner

An EV Dodge Charger and Tesla Model Y took to the Las Vegas Speedway in an all-electric drag race.

Described by one commenter as ‘the only drag race that wouldn’t wake a baby’, it was weirdly quiet, with only the EV’s soundbar creating the iconic drag race roar.

Commenters had a lot to say about the performance of the two EVs and missed the loud and proud nature of a classic drag race.

There was a clear winner when it came to the two cars, calling some to ask for the ‘muscle’ to be put back into ‘muscle car’.

How did the new EV Dodge Charger perform?

Like all nights at the Las Vegas Speedway, this one was no exception when it came to the excitement of watching a drag race. This one was a lot less noisy though.

We’ve previously seen a Tesla up against a Mopar at the The Strip and this one is the next step up from EV vs. ICE and it’s EV vs. EV.

The two challengers are a Tesla Model Y and the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona, with Dodge trying to bring classic American muscle into the electric era.

When the two went head-to-head, the Tesla Model Y smoked the EV Dodge Charger by a whole 0.5 seconds, showing that when it comes to the EV game, Tesla might have the lead.

The Tesla Model Y completed it’s quarter mile in a cool 11 seconds, while the Dodge Charger Daytona trailed behind coming in at 11.5 seconds.

The reaction

The public reaction to the drag race has been mixed to say the least, with petrolheads complaining about the lack of heart and roar when it came to an all-electric drag race.

One commenter said: “Its like going to a rock concert and the person singing is a mime,”

Another described it as the ‘[first] drag race that won’t wake the baby’.

It seems as though Dodge has a way to go with proving itself as an electric muscle car to contend with, especially as one commenter found it hilarious that the Charger ‘needs a charger.’

Although it’s not the weirdest drag race we’ve ever seen, as EV production gets better and better, more and more muscle EVs shall be hitting the market, hopefully they’ll be able to please the petrolheads with their performances and handle the power of the The Strip at the Las Vegas Speedway.
