A report in China has announced that Tesla has secured 50,000 orders for the brand-new Model Y Juniper in a period of just 24 hours.

The American electric vehicle manufacturer – owned by billionaire Elon Musk – unveiled the new-look model of the car in China last week, as well as a few other markets supplied by Tesla’s facility in Shanghai.

Interestingly, this updated and facelifted model has received some mixed reviews.

The best-selling Model 3 received very positive feedback for its facelift, as well as its upgrades and updates.

Compared to the Model 3, the updated design for the Model Y has not been as overwhelmingly well-received.

The upgrades and updates for the new Model Y have also not been viewed as being that different to the Model 3.

This is news that will surely come as a bit of a disappointment to Elon Musk’s car company.

We’re sure they won’t be too worried though, as you’re about to find out.

Good news for Tesla

In spite of some reservations about the car, there appears to be cause for celebration at Tesla HQ.

According to various reports, Tesla has managed to secure 50,000 orders for the new Model Y Juniper in just over 24 hours.

Last year, the automotive giant delivered around 480,000 Model Y units in China in 2024.

This represents around five percent growth for Tesla in China year after year in that country.

To put this into context, 50,000 orders for the refresh model would represent around one months’ worth of orders in just under a day.

However, this design refresh has been expected for around a year, so demand has very much been building.

When will the new Model Y be delivered?

In short – nobody is entirely certain.

Whilst the various reports all agree on the number of orders, there is no agreement on any timeframe for delivery.

The broad thinking is that Tesla will begin delivery of these orders around March of this year.

However, one source indicated that delivery might not begin until as late as April or even May.

As ever with Tesla – and the company’s often-controversial CEO – we’ll just have to wait and see.
