This is what the upcoming Tesla restaurant and Supercharger station in Los Angeles looks like today.

The restaurant, which doesn’t have a name yet, looks halfway between a 1950s diner and a flying saucer or a spaceship.

Tesla is building it quite fast, considering it took just over a year to build what you see here.

We’ve had the chance to check out the construction site, and the venue is certainly starting to take shape.

The idea behind the Tesla restaurant

Elon Musk first teased the idea back in 2018 but nothing really happened until a few years later, when Tesla obtained the necessary permits to build the venue.

Construction began shortly thereafter, in September 2023.

With the best will in the world, charging EVs is still a relatively lengthy process, which is why Tesla Superchargers are often (but not always) located right next to hotels or restaurants.

That’s probably where the idea came from, and the fact it clearly serves as a marketing stunt doesn’t hurt.

Located at 7001 Santa Monica Blvd, the vuene will comprise a dine-in theater, and it will also provide Superchargers for Teslas and other EVs that are compatible with Tesla’s proprietary charging points.

What the site looks like now

Not long ago, we had the chance to go check out the restaurant in person, on location in Los Angeles.

Progress is being made quite rapidly, and the restaurant is already taking shape and beginning to look like it did in the 3D renderings shared by Tesla a while back.

The main building is more or less complete, and the fact the inspiration comes from 1950s diners is evident.

Although we should point out that, based on what we saw, the building is still mostly an empty shell.

Superchargers have already been installed, and there’s a massive frame that looks like it might be designed to accommodate an equally gigantic screen.

A deadline hasn’t been given to us yet but, to be fair, that’s probably for the best.

After all, Tesla is famously a bit…over-optimistic when it comes to deadlines.
