Tesla achieved record sales in the third quarter of 2025, with deliveries seven percent higher than the same period last year.

It’s no secret that Tesla has had a bumpy year.

The first three months of the year saw sales drop 13 percent, followed by another 13 percent in the second quarter.

One of the models most badly hit was the Cybertruck, which saw second-quarter sales fall to 4,306 units.

Tesla sales have grown by 7% over the same period last year

While the carmaker didn’t get off to the best start this year, things really picked up in the third quarter.

Total global deliveries rose seven percent, helping the the marque to secure record sales.

In the three months to the end of September, Tesla delivered 497,099 vehicles, up from 462,890 during the same time period in 2024.

Sales were significantly higher than analysts’ forecasts, which predicted around 444,000 deliveries, the Financial Times reports

It’s a new record for the carmaker, beating the previous record sales from the fourth quarter of 2024, when it delivered 495,570 vehicles.

CNBC reported that the company had a 43.1% market share through September.

But it wasn’t the only carmaker to enjoy a surge in EV sales in Q3.

Rivian reported third-quarter deliveries of 13,201, a rise of 32 percent,

Meanwhile, General Motors, which offers the most EV models in the States, sold 144,668 EVs through September, and went from a 8.7 percent market share at the beginning of 2025, to 13.8 percent.

What’s driving Tesla’s record sales surge?

The boost to Tesla’s sales comes as American motorists rushed to buy EVs before the $7,500 federal tax credit expired on September 30

Figures revealed that July was the second-biggest month ever for electric car sales, with experts suggesting that sales will likely fall after September 30.

Data from CNBC revealed that more than one million EVs have been sold through the first nine months of the year, including a record-setting 438,000 units sold during the third quarter.
