Texas neighborhood toll developer forced to act after Cypress residents blow up over being charged to drive home

After being charged to drive on the only road in or out of town, residents of one neighborhood in Cypress, Texas, have forced the toll company to come up with a better solution.

This was the story that infuriated residents of Creekland Village in Cypress, Texas.

They discovered that they were being charged for the privilege of driving to and from work.

That’s because the single highway in and out of the area is a toll road – and locals say they weren’t aware of this.

The company is speaking out after backlash

The neighborhood in question, Creekland Village, is a relatively new one, located in Cypress.

To get in and out of this area, you need to go via State Highway 99.

While frontage roads would usually be available to residents, no such roads exist for the residents of Creekland Village.

So Highway 99 is their only option for daily commutes.

That wouldn’t be so bad – if not for the fact that this is a toll road and they reportedly had no idea.

For a long while, there was no charge that came with using this road.

But now these Texans are paying 56 cents each time they leave and enter.

If somebody is driving to and from work five days a week, that adds up to $5.60 a week – and approximately $22.40 a month.

And that could even become $268.80 a year.

Not ideal at all.

Now, the neighborhood developer, Howard Hughes Holdings, has come forward with a proposed solution.

As reported by local news channel KHOU 11, the company has begun work on a new non-toll road.

It’s expected to open by spring.

Nobody likes paying to use a road – but toll roads can be big moneymakers

Let’s face it, a toll road is something that drivers dread.

But should you be the manager of such a road, you will know that it can earn you some serious coin.

That’s certainly what one British man found when he set his own up and attracted 100,000 vehicles within a matter of days.

Shame that he didn’t get planning permission first, though.
