Kimera Evo38 impresses – both inside and out

The stunning, striking Kimera Evo38 has just had the covers thrown off of it.

It has just been revealed by Kimera Automobili in its finished, production form ahead of Monterey Car Week.

This one-of-a-kind throwback car comes with an incredibly advanced, four-wheel drive system.

It allows the driver to send power to the front wheels through Torsen limited-slip differential.

The torque split between each axle can be controlled can be varied using a controller in the cabin.

This controller also allows the driver to make the car entirely rear-wheel drive if they want.

So, what kind of powerplant does the Kimera Evo38 come with?

Quite an impressive and powerful one, is the ultimate answer to that question.

The engine, which is both turbocharged and supercharged, is a four-cylinder engine.

Originally producing 500bhp, the Kimera Evo38 now produces a whopping 592bhp.

This phenomenal power boost is owed to the addition of a 48V mild-hybrid system and a trick exhaust.

The exhaust is valved to allow drivers to swap between a road-friendly muffled set-up and a rortier straight-through one.

According to Kimera, when the valve is opened, the turbocharger can also be seen glowing through the car’s rear end.

Kimera pays tribute to the legendary Lancia 037

If the Kimera Evo38 happens to look familiar to you – well, you’re far from alone.

That is because the Kimera Evo38 is a modern-day tribute to the Lancia 037 rally icon.

In case you’re under the age of 40, allow us to describe why the Lancia 037 is such an iconic car.

Back in the early 1980s, Audi dominated the World Rally Championship (WRC).

It did so with its legendary, four-wheel drive Quattro car – wiping out the competition to boot.

In 1983, Lancia presented what it thought was the solution to the Audi’s dominance – the 037.

The Lancia 037 would ultimately win Lancia the coveted Constructors’ Title, wrenching it from Audi.

Incredible driving from German Walter Rohrl and Finland’s Markku Alen helped pave the way.

To this very day, the Lancia 037 remains the last rear-wheel drive car to win a World Rally Championship.

And the Kimera Evo38 appears to be a fitting tribute to that incredible legacy.
