The penalties for speeding differ depending on the location in the US, and these two US states have big punishments for speeding – the Super Speeder Law.

From fines and driver’s license penalties to even jail time, some US states really take speeding seriously, which they should. So you’d better be careful when you’re there.

At the start of this month, a new Super Speeder law came into place in Florida, which led to a man going to jail for driving just four miles per hour over the speed limit.

But the Sunshine State isn’t the only place where consequences are severe if you’re caught going slightly over the speed limit, and both states are right next to each other.

The two US states that have big punishments for speeding

In most states in the USA, it’s not good to be caught speeding in your car. But there are two states where you can face serious consequences for being a ‘super speeder’.

Super-Speeder laws punish speedsters with very steep consequences if they’re caught driving even one mile per hour over the speed limit.

The only two states that have formal Super-Speeder laws are Florida and Georgia, and while both states use the phrase, the severity of consequences varies greatly.

Florida takes things the most seriously; if you are caught going 50mph over the posted speed limit or over 100mph at any time, you can get 30 to 90 days in jail or a $500 to $1,000 fine.

Jail time for four mph over the speed limit

Florida’s new ‘Super-Speeder’ law came into effect at the start of this month, and one person has already fallen foul of the law, being caught going 104mph in a 70mph zone.

While he wasn’t going 50mph over the speed limit, he was going 4mph over 100mph total limit, which led to his being arrested and jailed.

In Georgia, the term ‘Super-Speeder’ is for people who go 75mph or more on a two-lane road or any speed above 85mph on any road.

The consequences are less severe, with an extra $200 fine slapped on top of the standard speeding penalties in Georgia, hardly jail time.

Next time you’re driving in the two US states, Georgia or Florida, you’d better stay under the speed limit, or you could be heading to the local jail.
