German guy takes 1990s BMW on wild road trip
This German guy is currently undertaking the type of road trip many of us can only dream of.
And his YouTube channel, E34 Expeditions, is documenting the entire journey.
The journey in question isn’t exactly a Sunday afternoon cruise to the beach.
Instead, the German is travelling from Berlin to somewhere east of Kazakhstan.
What sort of industrious 4×4 has the German taken with him on this trip, you might ask?
Well, he hasn’t – he has taken a third-generation, E34 BMW 5 Series.
All he has brought with him is a tent that is attached to the roof, as well as a skid plate for his BMW.

As mentioned, our fearless hero is completing a 15,500 mile loop around central Asia.
His wildest road trip actually kicked off back in April – and man and car have made serious progress.
At the time of writing, the man and ‘Theodor’ have completed around 9,300 miles.
The German’s latest update has him somewhere between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
And the best part of this road trip is that it isn’t overdone or made out to be something it isn’t.
It’s a simple, documentary-like, slow-paced road trip in a 1990s BMW.
What more could you ever ask for from a road trip like this, eh?
He’s using a very cool BMW
In terms of the 1990s BMW itself, it is a very cool car that is being used.
The BMW E34 5 Series is the third generation of the legendary saloon car.
Its production run lasted for nine years – from November 1987 to June 1996.
The BMW E34 5 Series was an important car for the Bavarian brand.

Not only did it solidify the 5 Series as the standard bearer, but it introduced some important innovations.
The E34 BMW marked the first time that four-wheel drive was incorporated into the 5 Series (with the 525iX).
It also marked the first time that a V8 engine was used in the 5 Series.
Check out the full journey over on his YouTube channel – it’s well worth a watch.
