This car has left thousands of people baffled as they can’t identify what it is.

A photo of the mysterious car was shared to Reddit, inviting speculation on the vehicle’s brand.

Fittingly, it was posted to the subreddit ‘What is this car’.

The car that confused the internet

Usually, the people on this subreddit do a pretty good job of identifying the most obscure cars.

But this one left users at a complete loss.

The person who shared the photo captioned it: “Can’t get any other photos of it. My guess is a home-built or maybe a movie car, but I’m stumped.”

He went on to say: “It’s been sitting since about 2015. That’s the earliest date it was in this lot at least.”

The lot in question is a private storage lot in Vancouver, Canada.

Not much can be seen in the image as a tarp is covering the majority of the body, but there are some clues that point towards a possible answer.

One remaining tail light is visible and looks sort of similar to one used on a Chevrolet Cobalt lens.

The grille is where things get really strange.

You would usually expect such a prominent grille to appear at the front of a car.

But as the exhaust tips confirm, this photo is showing us the back of the automobile – so this is a rear grille we’re looking at.

Many believed this was a VW Beetle at first, owing to the exhaust and potential rear-engine layout.

However, radiators can be seen behind the grille.

The Beetles are air-cooled, not water-cooled, so are not fitted with radiators.

The mystery goes deeper as thousands suggest theories

Upon closer inspection, the side of the car can be seen where the tarp has been pulled back.

The center panel looks as if it’s been removed, which raises the question of whether or not a door was originally there.

The original poster even photoshopped out the fence and restored the car’s missing parts to try and help people identify it, to no avail.

Some have suggested it looks like two cars have been pieced together in the middle.

Everybody and their mother seemed to have a theory on what the mystery car was.

One commented: “Pantera body kit on a fiero.”

While another argued: “[It] is clearly a Beetle shell on a Peterbilt chassis.”

A fellow car enthusiast wrote: “That’s clearly a Rolls-Royce grille as its back end.”

Frankly, nobody seems to have a solid answer.

Usually, when a car mystery comes up the brand of the car isn’t what has people confused.

Take, for example, the case of the pink McLaren 570s parked outside a London hotel for years.

Similarly, a Shelby GT500 Eleanor led to some speculation after it was parked in the same spot for weeks.

But this Reddit car is on a whole other level – can you tell what it is?
