This Chinese supercar from BYD Yangwang is an electric supercar that uses active suspension to leap over potholes and opens when you knock.

A recent video shows the car jumping over tyre spikes and a massive pothole without slowing down.

It’s a showcase of the kind of innovation Chinese automakers are now pushing in the electric performance space.

The BYD Yangwang U9 has positioned itself as one of the most advanced and unconventional vehicles on the market.

The Chinese supercar gained global attention after footage showed it using its active suspension to jump over a 2.5-meter-wide pothole while accelerating on a racetrack.

The electric supercar reached 120km/h before launching into the air, covering a six-meter distance without hesitation.

It then cleared tire spikes spread across four meters, demonstrating the capabilities of the BYD Yangwang suspension system.

In the final segment of the clip, the car drives over a stretch of colored dust strips in what appears to be autonomous mode.

The active suspension system in the BYD Yangwang U9 is called DiSus X.

It allows each wheel of the Chinese supercar to be adjusted independently, enabling the car to jump at speed, drive with three wheels, or even bounce in place.

The system allows for up to 75mm of adjustable suspension travel and a peak single-axis lifting speed of 500mm per second.

For an electric supercar, it’s one of the most dynamic setups ever seen in a road car.

Beyond the suspension trickery, the BYD Yangwang U9 is a serious performance machine.

It’s equipped with four electric motors producing a combined 960kW and 1680Nm.

The Chinese supercar can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.36 seconds and has a top speed of 309km/h.

It was unveiled by BYD Yangwang in 2023, with customer deliveries beginning in 2024.

The electric supercar is priced from around $623,048 in China.

One of the more unusual features of the BYD Yangwang U9 is its knock-to-open function.

Rather than relying on handles or sensors, the Chinese supercar unlocks and opens its doors when you knock on them.

This adds to the futuristic vibe of the electric supercar, further setting it apart from more conventional performance cars.

While this Chinese supercar has gained traction online, it’s not expected to arrive in America.

According to EVDirect, BYD’s local distributor, there are no plans to offer the BYD Yangwang U9 domestically.

However, a related model, the Yangwang U8 SUV, has appeared at BYD dealerships across the country.

A left-hand drive version of the U8 was also seen testing in China, making it a likely candidate for future American sales.

The BYD Yangwang U9 is more than a gimmick.

This Chinese supercar combines electric supercar performance with active suspension and a futuristic design language that includes features like knock-to-open doors.

It’s one of the most distinctive offerings in the high-performance EV space and shows how far Chinese engineering has come.

Even if the car doesn’t make it to the USA, it’s already redefining what the next generation of electric supercars can look like
