This Toyota 4Runner driver hit a massive unexpected snag when she went for a routine oil change and ended up leaving in a courtesy car.

Taking your car in for a service and an oil change is so routine that mechanics must hate doing them.

But nonetheless, it’s a mundane task that takes little expertise to complete, as long as you can get underneath the car.

That’s why TikTok personality Dixie Mayfield was so stunned when she went to collect her Toyota 4Runner from her local dealership and left in a courtesy Corolla.

Toyota 4Runner driver shocked as local garage loses her keys

Unless you’re the owner of a Bugatti Veyron – whose procedure costs more than the price of a car itself – an oil change should be an in-and-out job.

Typically, Toyota cars are quite a quick fix too.

But in the case of Dixie Mayfield, she returned to the dealership to pick up her Toyota 4Runner and was told that the oil change had been done, but she couldn’t drive home.

They’d lost the keys.

In a TikTok upload, the young woman revealed that the garage lost the only set of keys that they had for the car.

According to the driver, the garage couldn’t issue a replacement either.

“It was already almost close by the time they told me they lost the key, so they had to give me a spare car,” she said.

Other Toyota drivers have faced similar issues.

“This happened to me when I bought my Toyota Crown they gave me my “spare keys” but it was keys to a 4Runner,” one comment read.

Strangely, there were so many similar stories.

“Brought my car into an auto shop for an oil change. Decided to get new wiper blades while I was there & they cracked my windshield,” one person said.

Oil changes are somehow becoming less routine than we’d care to think.

It’s not the only time a customer has been less-than-happy with their mechanic – take for example this Mercedes-Benz owner who was charged a small fortune.
