Toyota has restomodded a 1985 FJ60 Land Cruiser SUV, giving it new power under the hood but with classic looks, for SEMA 2025 in Las Vegas.
The Japanese manufacturer’s American division loves to bring interesting vehicles to the show, be they a concept or a wildly modified car.
This year, it is all about a 1985 FJ60 Land Cruiser, which the company has modernized without losing any of the SUV’s original styling.
In fact, even the running gear is factory stock still, yet the SUV now has twin-turbocharged power under the hood.

How Toyota modified the 1985 FJ60 Land Cruiser
Toyota removed the original 2F 4.2-liter inline-six from the car, which produced 135hp and 200lb-ft of torque.
Instead, the Land Cruiser now has a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 i-Force engine.
This is the engine you would expect to find in the Toyota Tundra and other models.
Now, the SUV has 389hp and 479lb-ft of torque at its disposal.

It still has, however, the factory-stock H55F five-speed manual transmission.
Despite the extra power, the 40-year-old transfer case is also still original.
Toyota has also retained the original front and rear live axles, showing how well-built they were in the 1980s.
The manufacturer, however, did create a new oil pan that would fit under the hood of the FJ60.
The FJ60 retains its original aesthetic
Looking at the car at SEMA, you wouldn’t realize that anything had actually changed.
This is because the manufacturer did an amazing job of keeping the original aesthetic of the SUV.
The body did go through some regeneration and restoration, though.
Thankfully, Toyota was able to use period-correct colors and graphics to keep the look as original as possible.
Motorsports Garage and PPG worked together to respray the SUV into its original Silver 147 color.
That leads you to believe this Toyota was kept in a garage for over 40 years, like this Dodge Dakota.

Inside, the interior also underwent a thorough restoration.
The only thing that gives this away as a restomod is the new infotainment system.
There is also a new Alpine Halo11 head unit and JBL speakers.
Aside from that, though, you would think this is an untouched Land Cruiser from the mid-1980s. We want one!
