Twisted Automotive, a car company that specializes in Land Rover Defenders, was founded in the most unusual of ways.
The founder took a huge risk by purchasing 240 old Land Rovers to modify them and resell them.
It was a huge investment, but it paid off big time.
The problem is that the company is now ‘running out’ of Land Rovers.

The company is running out of cars to modify
In a video shared on the Resto Revival ~ Car Stories YouTube channel, Twisted founder Charles R. Fawcett revealed the company hasn’t got that many Land Rovers left.
“[We don’t have] that many [left]. Not enough. Maybe 21 or 22,” he said.
Each Twisted Land Rover is a bespoke product that takes time to build, so 21 or 22 donor vehicles are probably enough to get them through 2025 and maybe 2026, but no one knows what they’re going to do after they’re all out.

The old Defender was a timeless classic that lended itself well to the sort of modifications this tuning firm became famous for.
And the main reason why JLR (Jaguar-Land Rover) agreed to this one-off deal was because production of the old Defender had just ended.
By contrast, the new Defender is a modern luxury off-roader, and a repeat deal with Land Rover is very unlikely.
How Twisted can now sell Land Rover Defenders for hundreds of thousands of dollars
Back in 2015, Charles Fawcett bought 240 Land Rover Defenders, and put them in a ‘secret’ bunker.
The idea was to modify each one, make it unique, and then sell it as a bespoke premium vehicle.
In the first few years, Twisted Automotive was selling vehicles for around $100,000 each.
The margin was pretty good, but not spectacular, and that’s because the company was still new, and was trying to build a reputation.

Now, some models Twisted sells can cost as much $200,000 or even $300,000.
Between 2015 and 2024, as reported by LADbible, Fawcett said the company’s revenue exceeded £50 million – equivalent to around $65 million.
Interestingly, Fawcett is now apparently considering doing the same thing with boats.
So maybe boats, not cars, are going to be the next chapter in the brand’s history.
