A man was left distraught after his beloved Honda was stolen – but after buying a replacement and using the sat nav, he discovered something unbelievable.
In his search for a new daily driver, the UK-based motorist found another Honda Civic Type R for $27,000 before noticing it was strangely familiar.
It was only through the car’s sat nav that he realized everything wasn’t as it seemed.

How a sat nav revealed he’d bought his own car
The car was a great buy initially, the exhaust system was similar to his stolen car, and the vehicle was even produced in the same year.

But he was left in utter disbelief when he realized he’d unknowingly bought back his own stolen car.
How did he find out, you ask? Well, it was all down to the Honda’s sat nav system.
While driving what he thought was his new set of wheels, he noticed personal addresses saved in the system.
There were other giveaways, too.
“I started noticing things in the car were a little bit odd, like a single tent peg and some Christmas tree pines and some, like, Mars bar wrappers and things that they hadn’t cleaned out.
“All very similar to what you could have found in my stolen car,” he told the BBC.
The car had new license plates and a different number of miles on the odometer.

The man notified the police and the garage that he had bought the car from, with both reportedly expressing that the clone was one of the most impressive that they had seen.
Ultimately, the car was confirmed to be his by brand technicians.
Driver’s reaction to buying his own stolen car
As you can imagine, finding out that his new car was actually his own stolen vehicle wasn’t an easy experience to go through, whilst still actually driving.
“I nearly crashed, to be honest, because I was in shock… My hands were shaking; my heart was pounding.
“A part of me felt sort of triumphant for a moment until I realized, actually, no, this isn’t some heroic moment; you didn’t go and get your car back; you’ve actually done something a bit stupid,” he further told the BBC.
So, even though we sometimes display frustration at sat nav systems, they helped this Honda enthusiast discover the bizarre truth about his new vehicle.
