This man got the ultimate birthday present as he drove a McLaren F1 for 1,000 miles.

Ed Bolian, host of YouTube channel VINwiki, got to tick an awesome item off his bucket list.

He accompanied Pedro from Revs Institute on a week-long road trip to a McLaren F1 Owners Club Tour.

It would be a 1,000-mile journey across North Carolina and Tennessee to join other McLarens.

The opportunity of a lifetime – driving a McLaren F1 for 1,000 miles

The car at the center of this story was the McLaren F1 Chassis 22.

And its destination was the McLaren F1 Owners Club Tour, at the end of a trip that would take Ed and Pedro 1,000 miles to complete.

Although it was initially a little awkward to enter, it felt totally natural once inside – like a ‘carbon fiber cocoon’.

For Ed’s first part of the drive, there was some sensory overload going on, but things soon slotted into place.

“There are once-in-a-lifetime experiences, there are pinch yourself moments, and then there are days like this,” Ed said.

“Words cannot describe it.”

Every moment became a ‘Pinch me’ moment, even down to filling up at a gas station and checking the oil.

And for someone with as big a supercar collection as Ed has, you know this McLaren had to be a big deal.

Upon arriving at their event in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, they began feeling a little out of their depth with the billionaires who had come to the event.

But they did feel some pride in knowing that they’d driven there, rather than having had their vehicle shipped in.

What happened when they reached their destination?

There was a three-day itinerary – loops around Maggie Valley on day one, a drive to Blackberry Farm in Tennessee on day two, and a return home on the third.

This was a perfect opportunity to take in the beauty of their surroundings, in addition to enjoying a seriously incredible car.

After a while, it started to feel normal to hop into an F1 car after finishing up lunch.

That’s certainly a strange thought.

It’s not like Ed is a stranger to awesome cars, though, whether it’s this Bugatti Veyron once owned by Justin Bieber.

And who can forget this Victoria’s Secret Lamborghini?
