A car enthusiast bought his dream BMW 340i and has restored it from an ‘unsalvageable’ condition.

The BMW 3 series is a tried and tested car for all types of drivers.

From suburban dads living their mid-life crisis stage to 17-year-olds at car meet-ups, even the most basic 3 Series cars are attractive.

But they can also become huge race cars, and this particular BMW 340i is being transformed from a broken-down pile of tin to a ‘super slayer’

Unsalvageable BMW 340i gets restored from brink of death

YouTuber Danny Z has a record of turning around some rather woeful cars, but in his latest series on the platform, he has been renovating a scrap-ready BM.

Dubbed the ‘cheapest BMW 340i in America’, Danny bought the 340i M Sport for around $8,000, but the problems that the naked eye could see were only surface value.

Chief amongst them – the car didn’t move.

For around three months though, the mechanic turned content creator has been drumming away at reviving it, and now the car has been fully restored. And more…

The car obviously had some major issues – a massive crash wrote off most of the front end while both doors were replaced with white stock choice and the rear right bumper remained damaged and dented.

But under the hood, the car was a disaster.

A new battery was first on the list of purchases, along with the exterior body parts and original matte grey paint.

The transmission also failed, which needed replacing entirely

Then, it was time to change this dad sedan to a sports car.

Restored BMW becomes a beast

With a solid engine to run with (a B58 3.0L inline-6 turbocharged), many enthusiasts can achieve close to 800 horsepower with modifications.

For Danny, the repairs started on the exterior, adding carbon fiber accents, and upgrading headlights and taillights to become much more sporty.

Then, it was onto the engine.

A cheap cold air intake was added from eBay which did wonders for the performance immediately.

A valvetronic exhaust system, carbon fiber exhaust tips, a new e-brake cable bracket, and a Stage 2+ tune all followed, and combined with the flexed new transmission, the BMW 340i went from an unsalvageable stray cat to a roaring lion.

This wouldn’t be Danny’s first overhaul after he previously restored a BMW 335i with a supercar interior.

To land such a good car for such a bargain and improve it quickly with minor upgrades leaves this story as one of the better revivals that we’ve seen – although not quite as impressive as the very first General Lee restoration.
