This US man had owned his Tesla Model Y for a year, so he compared the costs to gas cars, revealing stark differences.

And we’re not just talking about some minor differences here.

Some of these disparities are worlds apart.

YouTuber Vegas Tesla Carmen certainly made a good case for going electric.

The costs that come with a Tesla – how do they compare to a gas car?

In the year that Carmen had owned his Model Y, it’d covered between 12,000 and 14,000 miles.

All in all, he’d spent $810 on charging in total, which is pretty good, right?

By comparison, with the way gas prices are in Nevada, he would have spent around $2,675 filling a gas car in that time.

That’s savings of $1,865 – anybody would be happy with that.

As for maintenance, that was pretty minimal too, as only the air filter needed replacing.

At $30, this is a drop in the bucket compared to the potential costs that come along with gas cars, like oil changes.

Insurance through Tesla cost Carmen $1,922 ($160 a month), slightly below the average full-coverage rate of $223 a month.

Since there was no EV subcharge in Nevada, the registration cost was around the same as it would have been for a gas car.

How about the purchase cost?

So far, the EV has the edge over the gas, but could that all change when it comes to purchase?

The Model Y was bought for $48,190 – and the $7,500 EV tax credit brought that price down to approximately $40,630.

So there you have it – even with high mileage and using superchargers, the Tesla still works out as cheaper than a gas car.

There’s obviously different factors that come into play – access to home charging, local state costs, driving habits, etc.

But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen an EV get the edge on gas cars as far as prices go.
