Vancouver locals can’t believe the superyacht that’s appeared off their shoreline and how many gallons of fuel it is guzzling.
A $300 million superyacht has dropped anchor in their canoeing space, blocking views and stirring anger online and in local communities.
The massive vessel is reportedly burning between 130 and 210 gallons of fuel every hour while it sits on the shoreline.
Residents of Vancouver are frustrated, but others can’t help but be impressed by the engineering on display.

$300,000,000 superyacht makes Vancouver residents furious
Vancouver residents aren’t happy about the newest and gigantic addition to the Canadian shoreline in their canoeing area.
The superyacht, named Anawa, belongs to Brazilian billionaire Jorge Paulo Lemann.
A Reddit post about the yacht’s arrival in Vancouver quickly went viral, as users vented frustration over its scale and impact, while some were impressed by the beauty of the engineering.

Many complained that the 110-meter vessel had wiped out the skyline and turned the waterfront into a billionaire’s playground.
Beyond its size, the numbers behind Anawa have fueled outrage because the yacht’s diesel engines can consume up to 210 gallons of fuel per hour, releasing an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 tons of carbon dioxide every year.
It’s also equipped with a Helibras 350 helicopter, adding to the superyacht’s staggering carbon footprint, but also its level of luxury.

“Yo Orcas, got a fresh treat right here”
Even with its cutting-edge build, Anawa still burns through hundreds of gallons of diesel every hour and produces thousands of tons of carbon dioxide per year.
Critics argue that superyachts like this highlight the growing gap between luxury and sustainability.
Still, locals haven’t lost their sense of humour, and one Redditor poked fun at the yacht’s size and its presence in Canadian waters and joked:
“Yo Orcas, got a fresh treat right here.”

While the debate continues, one thing’s clear: Anawa has become the most talked-about visitor to Vancouver’s shoreline.
Whether seen as a marvel of design or a floating symbol of excess, it’s absolutely impossible to ignore.
