This Vegas Tesla owner put thousands of miles on a Model Y and a Model 3, before revealing whether they were cheaper than a gas car.

It’s a question that every buyer has to deliberate on when making the switch to electric.

After all, why give up gas cars if it ultimately costs you more in the long run?

This YouTuber revealed whether he’d made savings since moving over to Tesla.

Has moving over to a Tesla Model Y and Model 3 saved this Vegas man money?

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen EV owners open up about whether they’ve really saved good money since making the change.

For one Tesla Model 3 driver, the difference between charging up and fuel cost was staggering.

Another Model 3 owner broke down the figures and threw in insurance and maintenance for good measure.

In fact, Tesla owners en masse have shared their savings, and sometimes it’s enough to make you convert to an EV on the spot.

But is this always the case?

YouTuber Vegas Tesla Family owns a Tesla Model Y and Model 3, and has racked up thousands of miles on them both.

While he has made use of Superchargers out in public, he has primarily been charging at home – which is where the savings come in.

He estimated his Model 3 would cost $10.50 for a full charge.

In the first few months, he’d spent $132 in charging, which was far less than the $427 he would have spent on gas in the same period.

That’s $295 saved.

But how did the Model Y fare?

With $711 spent on charging – including on a cross-country road-trip – it was worlds away from what the gas price would have been.

We’re talking about a hypothetical $2,441 in gas, according to the Tesla app.

Savings of $1,730 are nothing to sneeze at.

Were there any downsides to going electric for this owner?

Charging costs aren’t the only expense that Tesla owners have to contend with.

According to him, his maintenance costs have been fairly minimal, with $158 spent on tire rotations, filters, and washer fluid.

How about insurance?

For the Model Y, he was paying $176.95 a month, and $129.43 for the Model 3.

It’s hard to draw a direct comparison to the insurance of a gas car, as insurance rates can vary depending on different factors.

Insurance rates can also very much vary from state to state.

In Nevada, the average yearly cost for full coverage is $2,535 and $816 for minimum coverage, Forbes reported.

The former figure would be the equivalent of $211 a month.

That’s still a fair bit more than what this YouTuber was paying on his Teslas.
