A man has gone viral after claiming that most people don’t know how to use a common car feature.
In a clip on TikTok, the motorist explained that there’s a good chance there’s a straight-forward function you might be misusing.
He claimed that people will ‘pay a million dollars’ for a system and then they ‘don’t even know how to use it’.
Ouch.
He claimed people make the same mistake when using the car feature
Modern cars are crammed with cool and useful new features – such as Tesla’s handy Dog Mode option, or the ability to turn your Ford into a karaoke machine.
But TikTok user @p.teur reckons it’s one very common car feature that many folks struggle to use correctly: climate control.
“Do you know how to use your automatic climate control?” he asked in the clip. “Most people don’t.”
He says that the mistake many people make is having it set to high when it doesn’t need to be.
“Everything is set to high, which is like the max it will go. Is your house thermostat set to 95 degrees? No, it’s not. It’s set to 72,” he said in the viral clip.
“All you have to do is set it to what you want, or maybe you like it warmer, maybe you like 74 degrees, 75.
“Most people don’t even use the dual zone, so you could just sync them so that they’re both the same thing.”
His views divided opinions with motorists
He went on to say that by switching it on ‘auto’ you don’t need to worry about putting it on defrost or angling the air down towards your feet.
“I never touch my climate control in my car,” he added. “It’s 72 – the whole year ‘round and I never touch it.”
And it seems the viral post struck a chord with some motorists.
“I’ve had to explain this to everyone in my family,” one person said.
“Just set the temp and forget about it.”
Another wrote: “The first thing people do when they get in my truck is mess with it. No, it’s on auto-set temp, don’t touch anything else.”
However, others disagreed, saying they preferred to use it manually.
@p.teur How many of you are setting your automatic climate to HI in winter and LO in the summer??? Leave the damn thing alone!!! #cartips #cars #chevy #ford #dodge #ram #jeep #cadillac #buick #driving #drivingtips #winter #summer ♬ original sound – Peter
“I’d rather overheat my truck, then turn it all the way off till I’m shivering, turn it back to high, and repeat,” a fellow TikToker wrote.
A second said: “When it’s 15 degrees and snowing here, it will be on ‘high’ until further notice.”
