This Virginia man was banned from a Facebook group after he boldly claimed that he could build a car that no one had ever built before – so he decided to do it anyway.

YouTuber JT Built It was unceremoniously kicked out of the Facebook group after he claimed he could build the world’s first Honda Goldwing-powered Volkswagen Beetle.

The reason given? Well, in the words of one of the group members, the reason he was kicked out was ‘stupidity’.

So he set out to prove them all wrong.

Banned from Facebook group for claiming he could build a car

JT Built It wanted to work on this VW Beetle project in his garage with no sponsors and no team.

It was an ambitious undertaking, there’s no doubt about that.

A lot of people believed it was impossible.

That was certainly the case for members of the Facebook group that banned JT after he claimed he could build it.

“You have been BANNED from the group for the following reason: *STUPIDITY*,” the message read.

Well, that spurred him on to build the Honda Goldwing-powered VW Beetle.

You may be wondering – why this project in particular?

Well, it’s a fairly niche topic within the world of custom-cars, but it’s been gaining momentum in recent years.

In forum posts as early as 2012, fans have speculating on the logistics of putting the engine of a Honda Goldwing motorcycle into a VW Beetle.

The engines are judged to be high revving compared to Beetle engines, in addition to be water-cooled, compact, and extremely reliable.

By putting it inside a Beetle, it has the potential to boost the car’s reliability, whilst keeping it lightweight.

So, could JT make it a reality?

Could the Honda Goldwing-powered VW Beetle be built?

There was a lot that needed to be done – body filler for a dented door panel, and a replacement rear fender needed to be prepped.

But at the center of the project was the engine itself.

The engine in question was a flat-six, which was mounted into the back.

There was something that gave him cause for concern.

“The proximity of this coolant hose to that exhaust pipe…not sure about that…might have lengthen that hose and move it upwards,” he speculated.

The moment of truth soon arrived, and it was time to start the car up.

Lo and behold, it started up, and he took it out for a short spin around the block.

There were some leaks from the coolant hose and he stalled it a few times, but on the whole it was a success.

Several slices of humble pie should be making their way to that Facebook group right about now, although luckily for them TJ didn’t name them.

We love seeing people take on awesome custom builds, like this 26-year-old guy from India who create a car out of scrap parts.

And who could forget the 18-year-old TikToker who created a Lamborghini out of scrap metal and cardboard?

Creatives of the world, we take our hats off to you.
