Volvo is just days away from revealing its next fully electric SUV, and it’s one the brand has clearly been building toward.

The new EX60 lands right at the center of the lineup, where expectations are higher and mistakes are harder to hide.

But this isn’t being teased like a side project or a niche EV experiment.

Instead, the Swedish manufacturer is treating it like a defining moment.

What separates the EX60 from a typical Volvo launch

The all-new electric EX60 will be unveiled via a livestream on volvocars.com and YouTube from Stockholm on Wednesday, January 21 at 12:00 PM ET.

Internally, Volvo has already labeled the EX60 a cornerstone in its electric lineup

That matters, because this is the company’s first fully electric model in the premium mid-size SUV segment.

A category where it says it already holds a strong position.

Rather than adapting an existing platform, the manufacturer is positioning the EX60 as born electric.

The company claims it will deliver the longest electric range of its models to date, along with faster charging than any previous model wearing the badge.

Beyond the numbers, Volvo is leaning heavily on experience

It’s promising a new user interface, updated safety systems designed to raise the bar again, and smart features that improve over time through software updates instead of staying frozen at delivery.

Production is set to begin at the company’s plant outside Gothenburg, Sweden in the first half of 2026.

That makes the EX60 less a distant ambition and more a model the brand plans to sell at scale next.

The manufacturer is already framing this EV as a turning point

A lot of car reveals revolve around styling reveals and spec sheets.

Volvo’s messaging around the EX60 has been noticeably different.

All of this software talk also helps explain why the manufacturer has been so deliberate about the EX60’s rollout, with the upcoming reveal set to frame the car as a major turning point for the brand, not just another new EV.

And while the design and specs will grab attention when the covers finally come off, Volvo has already made it clear the EX60’s real story is happening under the surface, with Google Gemini AI set to play a central role in how the car understands its surroundings.

That focus hints at how Volvo sees its electric future taking shape, with usability, intelligence, and long-term improvement carrying as much weight as range figures or charging times.

The company has even launched an EX60 Facebook Community ahead of the reveal.

A small but telling move that suggests this model isn’t just another addition to the lineup.

It’s meant to anchor what comes next.

One thing’s for sure: January 21 might be when the covers come off, but what the EX60 represents stretches well beyond the reveal.
