This guy bought a BMW E46 3 Series from Facebook Marketplace in Washington for the price of a Caribbean holiday for one, but people still think he got ripped off.
On the face of it, the situation was quite messy.
The interior was moldy, the exterior was far from perfect, and the engine wasn’t working well.
But it looks like the BMW owner is the one who’s going to have the last laugh.
Even Mate Rimac loves old BMWs
Old(er) BMW models, especially 3 Series and 5 Series variants, are in demand.
Even Mate Rimac, founder of Rimac and current CEO of Bugatti-Rimac, loves them.
He apparently uses a 20-plus-year-old E39 M5 quite regularly.
It all started with M3s and M5s, but those aren’t cheap to buy and they’re definitely expensive to maintain.

This is why people are now turning to other 3 Series and 5 Series variants.
The E46, for example, is definitely in demand.
And this content creator definitely found a good deal.
Why this E46 3 Series was a good deal

Washington-based content creator who goes by BackyardBoyz on TikTok was recently under social media fire for buying a decrepit, high-mileage BMW E46 from Facebook Marketplace for $2,100.
That doesn’t sound like a lot, but his followers made it sound like he’d done the equivalent of collecting $2,100 in cash and burning it.

At first, it looked like his followers may have had a point.
The engine made a horrible sound, potentially signaling an unfixable engine failure, and cosmetically, the car was a mess.
Especially inside, where the creator found mold and water.
But BackyardBoyz eventually fixed the engine, which was the car’s primary issue.

He is now tackling the interior; while he expects a nightmare in terms of time and energy, the financial cost should be minimal.
As you can see from the pictures – both the one above and the one below – it already looks infinitely better after its first wash.

As he said in the video, he believes he can flip the car for at least two or three times what he paid for it.
So stay tuned for that.
