Richard Mille and Ferrari make history with the world’s thinnest watch

It’s been a year since Richard Mille and Ferrari first announced their partnership ahead of the 2021 F1 Season, and now they have revealed their first timepiece together.

They took their time, but this was definitely worth the wait.

It’s called the RM UP-01 Ferrari, it costs $1.8 million and it is officially the thinnest watch in the world.

At 1.75 mm, it is 0.05 thinner than the Bulgari Octo Finissimo, which previously held the record.

It is arguably one of the most striking pieces RM has ever made.

A far cry from the traditional tonneau-shaped timepieces RM is famous for, this is guaranteed to shake things up.

Ferrari is one of the strongest brands in the world, and we obviously associate it with automotive technology and crazy designs.

That’s something that Richard Mille definitely kept in mind when designing this engineering masterpiece.

Mechanical watches like this usually consist of 100 individual components or more, and that’s not the end of the story because RM famously manufactures everything in-house, including the screws and bolts.

You can imagine how complex it must have been to fit everything inside the case of a watch this thin.

Despite being about as thin as an A4 sheet of paper, the watch is also corrosion-resistant.

According to RM, it can also withstand accelerations of more than 5,000 Gs due to its titanium construction.

In theory, you could wear this watch all day every day but most soon-to-be owners are most probably not going to do that.

They’ll probably buy this and store in their bank vault.

And you can’t really blame them because only 150 lucky people will be able to buy one and in order to do that, they’re going to need to fork out $1,888,000. Ouch.
