A rare 1968 Porsche 912 was unearthed by a firefighter in Wales, UK, after spending more than 45 years tucked away in a garage.

The Porsche 912 was introduced in 1965 with an original production run that lasted until 1969.

These days, you don’t see too many 912s out on the road, which made the find in a Welsh garage all the more impressive.

Not only was the Porsche 912 all original, but it even had a newspaper dating back to 1979 on the driver’s seat.

The Porsche 912 had spent more than four decades parked

The 1968 Porsche 912 was discovered by Matt, who appeared on a recent episode of The Late Brake Show YouTube channel.

It all started when Matt met an elderly woman with a Porsche 924 Carrera GT, who just so happened to mention that her husband was the owner of a 1968 Porsche 912, which had its original engine and gearbox.

Matt went out to see the car and was blown away.

After taking a closer look, he even unearthed a newspaper on the driver’s seat that was dated November 29, 1979, revealing when the 912 had last been out on the road.

The owner told Matt that the car wasn’t for sale as he planned to restore it with his son.

However, two years on, the owner contacted Matt and told him that the car was now up for grabs as his son had no interest in the restoration project.

Matt quickly snapped up the car and then reached out to Johnny Smith from The Late Brake Show to determine whether the 912 would ever be able to get back on the road.

Would the vintage Porsche run again?

During its years spent parked in the garage, the 912 had acquired a thick layer of dust and dirt.

But underneath all of that filth and grime, the vintage vehicle was actually in pretty good shape.

The car was given its first clean in decades, but then the big question remained: would it actually run again?

Matt enlisted the help of a local Porsche dealer to see if the engine could get back up and running.

Incredibly, after putting in some hard work, the team was able to bring the original flat-four engine back to life.

The Porsche 912 still has a long way to go before it is restored to its former glory – but it’s well on its way.
