WhistlinDiesel buys two classic Ford and Chevy trucks and pits them against each other in challenges to see which is the best

There’s no reason to pit a 1970s Ford truck against a 1970s Chevy truck in 2026, but WhistlinDiesel did it anyway.

And why not? It’s fun.

For his challenge, WhistlinDiesel picked two best-sellers from the era.

Some people may have already guessed the winner, but probably for the wrong reasons.

Both the Ford and the Chevy still look great 50 years later

WhistlinDiesel (real name Cody) picked two icons for his challenge: a two-wheel-drive 1976 Ford F-350 dually (meaning it has four wheels at the back), and a 1972 Chevy K20 with a 350 small block.

Despite being over 50 years old, both trucks were in decent shape, which explains the prices.

They paid $10,500 for the Ford and $12,000 for the Chevy.

Not exactly what you’d call cheap for an old vehicle.

But then again the market loves what it loves, and these trucks are in demand.

Some people may have already guessed the winner, but not the reason why it won

After the ‘initial impressions’ phase, which is hardly scientific, Cody and his friend Brady started testing the trucks in more measurable ways.

They started with a simple drag race, which Brady’s Chevy won quite easily.

He also won the cold start test, the hill climb test, and the brake test.

The Chevy was also faster with a top speed of 81mph (while the Ford only did 77mph), had the fastest windshield wipers, and the best fuel economy.

After these vaguely empirical challenges, they got back to testing the trucks for ‘vibes,’ as the kids would say.

They did a wheelie challenge, which Cody won, and the ‘scavenger’ challenge, which he also won by filling up the truck bed with more stuff than Brady managed.

Interestingly, even though the Chevy won in every measurable way, they both agreed the Ford was better.

And the reason for that is simple: they just agreed that was the truck they preferred.

The Ford F-Series truck has been one of the best-selling vehicles in the world for decades, which means Cody and Brady are clearly not alone.
