A wife has tracked down the Mustang that her husband gave away 23 years ago under pressure from his parents.

Jeff Penrod, from Swartz Creek, Michigan, had been promised the 1968 Ford Mustang should he get good grades at school.

But when he failed to deliver the As, the Mustang was sent packing.

Decades later, his wife earned herself an A+ in marriage by tracking it down.

The hunt for the missing Mustang

Reflecting on the car being taken, Jeff told The Flint Journal: “My dad was one of those people who and still is that if he says something he means it and that was the rule; I had to hold straight A’s, which I was more than capable of doing and it wasn’t like I was being asked to do something absurd.”

Although the Mustang went away, Jeff kept a hold of the spare key, perhaps holding out hope for a reunion.

There are plenty of car reunions out there to give him reason to hold out – like this dad who was gifted a car like one he used to drive in the 1970s.

Years later, he began dating Brianna and eventually married her.

Once she found out about the Mustang, she decided she would bring it back to him for their tenth wedding anniversary in 2022.

With her husband being none the wiser, she saved up money in three months,

Thanks to Jeff’s dad, she was able to get in touch with the car’s current owner.

Once he was ready to sell it, he reached out and arrangements were made.

Owner and car reunited after 23 years

On Father’s Day, Jeff walked out of his house to see the Mustang sat on his driveway.

Brianna said: “It was so amazing to feel like this time had actually come. I had dreamt of it and never knew that this was going to be possible.”

Seeing the car caused Jeff to become emotional.

“When I walked outside there sitting in the driveway is the car I’ve been looking for or wanting back for 23 years,” Jeff recalled, as reported in the Detroit Free Press.

“In hindsight, it being gone for 20-plus years was probably better for the car.”

He acknowledged that there’s no telling what condition would be in had he owned and driven it for 23 years.

Car and owner reunions are always touching to see – just like this man who was reunited with his Mustang two decades after it was stolen.
