A woman who was given a free car by Oprah Winfrey has shared what the TV personality told her once the cameras were off.
During her time on the air, Oprah was known for her generous giveaways to audience members.
On more than one occasion, cars were handed out.
One lucky recipient has opened up about the time she received a Volkswagen Beetle in 2010.

The woman who got a free car from Oprah Winfrey speaks out
If you’ve spent time on the internet, you’ll have probably seen the GIF of Oprah yelling, ‘You get a car!’
That came from a 2004 episode of her show where she gave out free Pontiac G6s.
276 cars were given out in total, and the audience went wild for it, making it a treasured part of TV history.

But believe it or not, that wasn’t the last time that Oprah would treat her audience to a set of wheels.
Fast forward to 2010, and she was giving away Volkswagen Beetles for a Christmas show.
One woman who was in the audience, Candi Davis, took to TikTok to share her memories of the day.
“I was in the audience of the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2010, when she gave away the Volkswagen Beetles for Christmas,” she told her followers.

“It was a crazy, crazy day.”
But believe it or not, what Oprah said after the car giveaway was just as memorable as the gift itself.
“She kicked off her gold high-heeled shoes, sat down on the edge of the stage, and talked to all of us,” Candi recalled.
“She said, ‘I know you don’t feel like you deserve any of this stuff, and you don’t’.
“But you are worthy of it, and I want you to remember that.”
When people in the comments got confused about what Oprah meant by this, Candi elaborated in a follow-up video.

“There were a lot of people saying, ‘I should sell my car and give the money to my kids’,” Candi recalled.
“Oprah overheard some of that talk and said, ‘Let me stop you right there. You don’t deserve this, and if you feel like you don’t deserve this, that’s valid.
“But I want you to feel worthy of it. I want you to accept it. I want you to leave here with the car and not feel bad. Release any guilt you feel about being gifted this car.'”
She insisted that Oprah meant in a ‘sweet way’, not as a ‘backhanded compliment’ as some commenters had previously believed.
Celebrities have a track record of being generous with cars
In terms of gifts, you can’t get much better than a free car, right?
And this isn’t a fact by any stretch, but we reckon being in the orbit of a celebrity increases your odds of receiving one.

If you’re related to Dwayne Johnson, your odds would increase massively – his dad and his uncle can testify to that.
But as Oprah demonstrated, you don’t even have to be related by blood – you just need to be sitting in the audience.
