It’s as impressive as it sounds.

The creation is the product of a collaboration between Shoei and EyeLights.

And the technology behind it is incredible.

Shoei and EyeLights produce the future of the motorcycle helmet

Motorcycle fans everywhere will be very interested to hear this one.

Japanese giants Shoei and French firm EyeLights have been collaborating recently.

And it could be one of the most important developments in decades for the motorcycle helmet.

The partnership has focused on Shoei’s extremely popular GT-Air 3 helmet model.

This new GT-Air 3 Smart is more than just a unique take on the original – it’s the first motorcycle helmet to feature fully integrated augmented reality (AR).

The helmet features a built-in heads-up display (HUD).

It allows riders to see how fast they’re going or where they need to turn without looking at any additional hardware.

Of course, Shoei is a household name in the motorcycle world as the Japanese firm produces some of the best helmets anywhere on the planet.

Since 1958, Shoei has prided itself on producing elite-quality headgear for motorbike riders and was one of the first helmet manufacturers to introduce lightweight carbon-fibre helmets in the mid-1970s.

In the world of motorsport, the brand is represented by some of the biggest names.

Marc Marquez, the reigning MotoGP world champion, currently uses Shoei’s X-SPR Pro helmet.

Reigning World Superbike champion Toprak Razgatlioglu is another flagship Shoei user.

How does this augmented reality actually work?

So, we know all about Shoei – but what about EyeLights?

Well, the French brand is known for building HUD systems and Bluetooth audiokits for helmets.

The Smart variant of the GT-Air 3 features a visor with EyeLight’s third-generation HUD system built in.

But how does this HUD display actually work? Well, the incredible display uses nano-OLED technology.

This means that it can be read even in direct sunlight and depicts information like bike speed, radar warnings, and GPS navigation.

EyeLights claims that the HUD display presents information nearly 10 feet in front of the rider and believes that this increases reaction time by over 32 percent.

The company puts this down to the fact that riders no longer have to look down at the bike’s display or their mounted mobile phone.

Of course, this incredible built-in AR display isn’t the helmet’s only party piece.

EyeLights has also included a fully integrated premium audio kit.

The French firm claims that this new GT-Air 3 has the most powerful intercom system on the market.

Of course, such a helmet doesn’t exactly come…cheap.

In fact, the starting price of this Shoei GT-Air 3 Smart is $1,199.

That makes it more than $400 more expensive than the standard helmet.

In fairness, a helmet with built-in augmented reality is a really big deal.

And the collaboration between Shoei and EyeLights makes it an even bigger discussion.
