A wrong oil filter killed an LS-swapped Pontiac Firebird in an example of how a simple mistake can be costly.
CJ Cusey often shares videos of his Pontiac Firebird online, as it competes in burnout competitions.
As you can tell, his car has been put through its paces.
But no car is invincible, as he found out with an oil filter mistake.

A wrong oil filter killed off this Pontiac Firebird
Cusey was doing some donuts on Memorial Day when he spotted some oil on the pavement.
Investigating further, he found that an oil filter was at the root of the problem.
It turns out that it had blown off the oil pan once he started roasting the tires.

Cusey said the issue stemmed from when he was changing the oil.
The sticker on the oil pan had melted off, leaving him to do some Googling to figure out which oil filter would fit best.
After believing he’d found the right one, he bought it and screwed it on tight with a wrench.
Things would likely have felt fine at first, but the fast speeds seemed to have proven too much.
“I guess I could put an oil safety on the tune for burnouts, but that’s also dangerous for drifting to kill a motor mid-drift and turn into the wall,” he wrote on Facebook.

Car regrets…we have a few…then again, too few to mention
Everyone’s made a blunder with their car at one point or another.
Let’s face it, unless you’re a total car expert, you’re bound to have a slip-up now and then.
Everyone was laughing at this Bugatti EB110 over one rookie mistake, whilst a man was left paying out for his costly oil change error.
Admittedly, some mistakes feel more obvious than others.
For example, we have to question what Noel Gallagher had in mind when he bought a $110k Jaguar, even though he couldn’t drive.
Some mistakes are costlier than others.
But they all leave us feeling sheepish all the same.
