YouTuber bought abandoned Cirrus airplane sitting outside for over a decade sight unseen but after looking at it in person started second guessing his buy

This YouTuber bought an abandoned Cirrus SR22 airplane from Facebook Marketplace.

The plane only put a few hundred flight hours under its wings, but it hasn’t flown in over a decade.

There’s a reason why sometimes some things end up on Facebook Marketplace.

This YouTuber is finding that out the hard way.

Why buying an abandoned Cirrus SR22 airplane from Facebook Marketplace isn’t necessarily a good idea

Jason Morrison from the YouTube channel Rebuild Rescue clearly can’t resist buying expensive stuff from Facebook Marketplace.

In the past, he bought an abandoned yacht that wouldn’t start and another plane, which also didn’t really work properly.

The Cirrus SR22 he bought has flown around 500+ hours but the problem is it’s been sitting abandoned since 2013.

Back when it was new, this SR22 would’ve probably cost half a million but this YouTuber ‘only’ paid $135,000 for it.

As you can imagine, it’s pretty messy and nothing works.

The windows need resealing, the door is stuck, the engine won’t start and the interior needs significant work due to heat and moisture damage.

The good news – yes, there is some – is that the engine is in relatively decent condition considering the plane’s age and neglect.

Buying used planes is…challenging

If buying a used car is like closing your eyes and betting the house on red at the roulette, buying a used plane is like betting your house and your neighbor’s house on black.

Everything that could be said about buying a second-hand car applies to buying a used plane, except everything is more expensive and complicated.

The most ‘famous’ example of this is the YouTuber who bought Elvis Presley’s private jet.

Surprisingly, the plane did start.

Unsurprisingly, the plane was way too old to ever become airworthy again.

This is why the YouTuber, who goes by Jimmy’s World, eventually decided to turn it into an RV.

He got it done in just 18 months, but it still cost him a fortune.
