Acoa, a once-proud 92-foot wrecked yacht, is now at the center of one of the most baffling $1 listings you will ever see.

Valued at roughly $1.4 million, the sleek sailing vessel is technically up for grabs for less than the price of a cup of coffee.

At first glance, it sounds like the deal of the century.

However, as with all things that sound too good to be true, there is far more going on than meets the eye.

An environmental disaster waiting to happen

The 28-meter sailing yacht has been stranded off the coast of Mallorca, near Costa de los Pinos, since running aground during Storm Harry in mid January.

According to skipper Klaus Fietzeck, who was alone onboard at the time, violent winds snapped the anchor lines and hurled him into the sea.

He later swam ashore and was treated for mild injuries and hypothermia, while Acoa ended up wedged against the shoreline near Son Servera.

Since then, the yacht has remained stuck on its side, battered by waves and drawing curious onlookers.

Authorities attempted an early salvage operation but were forced to abandon it due to shallow waters that prevented tugboats from approaching safely.

Meanwhile, environmental concerns have grown.

Reports suggest the vessel still carries approximately 5,000 liters (1,320 gallons) of fuel, posing a serious spill risk if the hull deteriorates further.

Salvaging the wrecked yacht is going to be pretty costly

Acoa was delivered in 1985 in Germany by Dubbel & Jesse, built on naval architecture by Dubois Naval Architects.

With an aluminum hull and teak decks, it can host six guests in three suites and five crew members.

Powered by a single 414-horsepower Mercedes engine, it cruises comfortably with a range of 2,500 nautical miles.

So why is a yacht of this pedigree being sold for $1 (well technically, €1)?

Because that only buys you a share in the vessel, not the entire boat.

And more importantly, it also buys you an estimated $354,000 salvage and refloating bill, not including potential fines or environmental penalties.

Suddenly, that symbolic price tag makes a lot more sense.
