When you think of classic cars, a shiny Porsche will often come to mind, but his one carried a few unexpected surprises.

Deep in the depths of Ohio, this unique barn find took center stage as the long process of restoring it to its former glory unfolded.

From finding hidden inhabitants to uniquely designed gages and interior elements, the car’s cleanup journey was extraordinary.

However, once the hood was gleaming once more, the story was far from over, with the owner of the ’60s relic hit with an important decision to make.

This Porsche 912 was long forgotten

The Porsche 912 hit the production line during the 1960s, a decade that was packed full of classic automotive designs.

Produced from 1965 until 1969, and then briefly brought back as a US exclusive from 1975-1976, the model was labeled by Porsche as a ‘strategic move to cater to a broader audience without compromising on performance and style’.

It was based on the body of the 911, with the engine being the same as that in the 356 SC.

Brand new, these cars were shiny and impressive, but just wait until you see the model that the guys over at WD Detailing had the pleasure of cleaning up.

Together with the new Porsche’s owner, Doug, who was trying to flip the car for a profit, the guys had a big task on their hands.

They even described the removal of the car from the barn as one of the longest they’d ever participated in.

Unsure whether the car was a 911 or 912, the model soon became evident thanks to the huge 912 numbering displayed on the car’s dusty exterior.

“I think this thing will clean up looking really nice,” Doug said as even though it was dirty, the car was in pretty remarkable condition after being left to fend for itself for so long.

However, things took a turn when the frunk was opened up.

The 912 needed some serious TLC: here’s what went down

Before giving the car a much-needed scrub, the guys decided to open the frunk of the Porsche to discover what they were really dealing with.

“That’s a Bluetooth exhaust,” exclaimed one of the guys as he opened up the hood to reveal an astonishing amount of dirt and debris build-up.

A dried-up animal that the guys guessed could have been a mouse or a rat also called the frunk home and had made holes within the interior area.

It wasn’t all bad, though; a Porsche toolkit was also discovered among the dust and dirt.

The trunk and engine bay were empty, but the chassis was ‘extremely clean’, which was great news.

After the WD detailing guys worked their magic, the car’s black, glossy paint and yellow and gold features were fully on show, and the interior leather had no rips or tears either – talk about hitting the jackpot.

Now, remember, at the start, we said that Doug was getting it ready for a new buyer?

Well, it turns out that after cleaning up the 1969 Porsche, the WD Detailing team couldn’t let the car get away, and instead struck up a deal with Doug.

So, who knows, we could be about to see the restoration journey of the century unfold.

Only time will tell.
