2022 is going to be a big year for the supercar market.
Here are five we’re looking forward to most:
Aston Martin Valkyrie
Kicking off this list is the Aston Martin Valkyrie.
Due to arrive next year, it’s made some pretty bold promises.
This limited edition hypercar is Aston Martin’s vision of the ultimate road car.
Producing 1000bhp from a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated Cosworth V12, it’s certainly no slouch and can rev all the way up to 11,100rpm.
With all its crazy aero, it even manages to produce a staggering amount of downforce at speed, 1816kg (4000lb) of downforce to be exact.
Mercedes-AMG Project One
Mercedes has promised us the Project ONE for years now (its original concept was shown in 2017), but it finally looks like units will be delivered mid-2022.
The ‘ONE’ is essentially a Formula One car for the road thanks to its modified version of AMG’s hybrid F1 powertrain.
If the Germans manage to get this one right, then they might just have made the best car to ever grace the roads.
It could even take over from the McLaren F1 in terms of driving experience.
It’s no secret that Mercedes-AMG has had reliability issues with this engine because it isn’t meant for a road car, but things are looking up and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
BMW M3 Touring
BMW has never produced an estate version of the very popular M3.
However, the brand announced they would launch an M3 Touring in 2022.
You can expect the touring to be powered by the same 510hp motor as its saloon-based sibling.
Lotus Emira
This cheeky number from Lotus made it onto this list because it is a very important little car from the British brand.
As Lotus waves goodbye to the Elise, the Emira takes its place. While it may not exactly fit the shoes of its predecessor, the Emira is still very promising.
Priced from around £60,000 – the Emira fills a gap in the market and gives the Cayman from Porsche and the Alpine A110 a run for their money.
To start with, the 3.5-litre V6-powered sports car produces 394bhp with either a manual or auto transmission.
An AMG-derived engine will also join the line-up in 2023.
GMA T.50
You might have guessed it already but if you haven’t, the car that tops our list for 2022 excitement is Gordon Murray’s T.50 supercar.
This is a manual gearbox-ed, 650hp supercar that’s powered by a glorious-sounding Cosworth V12 engine.
It also weighs next to nothing at a total of 986kg.
All this means you’re looking at a rather spectacular car.
In fact, we may need to retract our statement from earlier in this article and crown this as the true McLaren F1 successor in terms of driver involvement and overall experience.
