Apple famously wants to run its own show whenever it comes to any type of technology and if a recent patent they’ve been granted is anything to go by, the tech giant may soon start making its own game controller.

Despite the patent being filed in August 2021, it was only accepted by the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and the European Patent Office last month, Business Insider reported.

Three designs for the controller have been put forward in the patent, one of them is pictured above.

The first one reminds me of Microsoft’s Xbox controller, the second one looks like the one for the Nintendo Switch and then lastly, the third one is a folding pad with four buttons and additional control buttons.

One filing first reported by Patently Apple is described as a “magnetically attachable gaming accessory”.

In the USPTO application, Apple says the accessory can improve “a specific functionality of an electronic device, can readily attach to an electronic device, can be easy to use”.

“One example can provide a gaming accessory that can improve the game playing functionality of an electronic device, such as a phone, tablet, or other computing device,” it said.

This move by Apple is interesting because it seems they’ve thought about the controller before the actual game.

As things stand, the company doesn’t really any gaming hardware.

Then again we’re all familiar with Apple’s MO, they started out with personal computers but they’ve expanded their reach, they even want to build a car, as most people know.
