Bugatti Bolide hyper testing on track

It was only a matter of time before we got another glimpse of the Bugatti Bolide hypercar.

After its final design was approved only a few months ago, a prototype has been tested on track ahead of deliveries in 2024.

It’s surprising how close the production version is to the concept that was unveiled in 2020.

More surprising, though, is the fact it made it to production, as the concept was a challenge thrown down to Bugatti’s designers to imagine a car without any restraints.

The only real differences are a more pronounced roof scoop, fewer fins behind the front wheel arches, and a revised rear wing with an adjustable component.

Bugatti also decided to include side mirrors rather than a camera system, which the French automaker says will allow drivers to estimate distances to other cars more quickly.

It’s an out-and-out track car featuring an aerodymnamic package that can be swapped between high-downforce and low-drag configurations.

The purpose – so you can choose a setup for a specific racetrack.

The nose of the Bugatti Bolide has been designed to lower when you brake hard, enabling the front splitter to sit closer to the ground and deliver more downforce.

Unlike the road-going Bugattis, the Bolide features several unique features, such as a carbon-fiber monocoque with an integrated roll cage.

Cooling, transmission, and pushrod suspension systems are all also unique to the car.

Under the hood is Bugatti’s familiar turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16, but in this case it’s mounted differently to other models.

Said engine delivers 1,578 horsepower on 98-octane fuel, however, the Buggati Bolide can also run on 11-octane fuel upping output to 1,824 hp.

It’s been tuned to rev higher than a road-going Bugatti and is mated to an upgraded version of the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic found in the road cars.

And, as it’s designed for track use, all four turbochargers are always in operation.

That’s a heck of a lot of power, so the Bolide has brakes that use carbon-ceramic rotors, with special covers on the 18-inch wheels to protect from extreme heat from the brakes.

Bugatti Bolide price

A total of 40 examples of the Bugatti Bolide will be built.

And despite having a price tag of $4,280,000, all units are taken.
