BMW unveils the highly anticipated XM... and its looks have people divided

BMW has unveiled its highly anticipated latest concept car and its look have people totally divided.

When we realised BMW’s M division was coming up to its 50th year anniversary, we got pretty excited because it meant we would hopefully see some amazing looking M products.

But what they’ve actually given us is, well, different.

Instead of launching a bespoke sports car like the BMW M1 from the late seventies, they decided to launch an SUV with styling that’s so boxy it makes the Lamborghini Urus and Pontiac Aztek look like Jaguar E-Types.

This might be a good thing if you’re into that kind of look. But for others, it’s proved questionable.

We must also bear in mind that this is a concept car so it won’t look exactly like this when it launches.

Secondly, BMW has given the XM a whopping 750hp.

That’s a lot of power.

Even the Urus has too much at 650hp, so BMW’s decision to add another 100 is bold.

The XM is also not fully electric.

I thought perhaps BMW would want to push electric power in a special one-off car, or even whack in a great big engine as a big send-off.

It may be useful to some, but once that battery dies the car’s just lugging around hundreds of extra kilograms in excess weight.

Personally, I wish BMW gave us a limited sports car or even a special i8 or gen-two M1 – but that’s just this writer’s humble opinion.

More importantly, what do you think?
