The most expensive car in the world in 2025 is the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen.
That sounds like a mouthful, and in a world full of supercars from Bugatti and luxury cars from Rolls-Royce, a 1954 Mercedes might not be the first car that comes to mind.
Yet this particular Mercedes is very special, and it became the most expensive car sold so far in 2025, with several factors behind its sales success.
But as well as this Mercedes, there are some other cars that also fly the flag for expensive, fast, and luxurious vehicles.

The 1954 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Stromlinienwagen is 2025’s most expensive car
The stunning Mercedes W 196 sold for a remarkable $60,000,000 at an RM Sotheby’s auction earlier in 2025.
That ludicrous price makes it the most expensive Grand Prix car ever sold in the world.
The car was driven by the late Sir Stirling Moss and Juan-Manuel Fangio during the mid-1950s.

Moss set the fastest lap with the car in the 1955 Italian Grand Prix.
Fangio won the 1955 Buenos Aires Grand Prix with the Silver Arrows, and it maxed out with a top speed of 186mph.
Given how perilous Formula 1 racing was in the 1950s, that speed figure becomes even more terrifying.
The sleek, streamlined bodywork gives the car its Stromlinienwagen name.
What is the most expensive new car of 2025?
For the most expensive new car of 2025, look at the Bugatti Brouillard.
Announced at the Monterey Car Week festivities in the summer, it will cost up to $20,000,000.
Making it more special is that it is a one-of-one model, with an 8.0-liter W16 under the hood, making 1,578hp.
As it is a one-off, there is another car that could claim to be the most expensive production car of 2025.
That is the Red Bull RB17, designed by Adrian Newey as his final act with the Red Bull company.

With a 4.5-liter hybrid-V10 under the hood, the RB17 makes an astronomical 1,200hp.
For $6 million each, they certainly don’t fall under the budget category.
Only 50 will ever be made, and they might be as fast as Formula 1 cars on the racetrack.
So 2025 has certainly been jam-packed with some expensive motors.
