A garage crew found an abandoned race car in a backyard in Texas, only to unveil a surprise hidden under the hood.

The crew was invited to buy some old cars by sitting in the backyard when they spotted this forgotten 1969 Pontiac Firebird.

The forgotten race car had rusted badly and had a few animals living in it.

Thankfully, the garage crew decided to take on this challenge and restore the car to its former glory.

Abandoned race car

The Turnin Rust crew found the forgotten race car through a local friend, who told them about the vehicles stored in the backyard.

Let’s take a look at how they attempt to revive this abandoned 1969 Pontiac Firebird.

After taking the 1969 Pontiac Firebird to their garage, they immediately went to work.

The race car needed to be cleaned first but they decided to see if it could run.

It featured a factory 400 cubic V8 engine, which had become overrun with rodents due to years of neglect.

After cleaning up under the hood and some tinkering with the engine they were able to start the car, but it came with a surprise.

As soon as the engine started, the right exhaust pipe started blowing a great amount of dirt out of the car.

It looked like a mini sandstorm had taken over the garage.

After checking underneath the abandoned race car, they also found that the right exhaust had a dent.

This could’ve led to soil accumulation over the years.

Fortunately, the engine was still usable and just needed a few new parts and a cleaning.

The previous owner of this 1969 Pontiac Firebird had used it as a drag race car.

However, after years of neglect, the race car was finally able to be restored.
