A customer at a restaurant in Alaska had left people doing double takes as they left and flew home in a plane, rather than getting in a car.

It seemed like the plane owner was doing everything to normalise what is a crazy sight to behold, with the airplane pulling out of the restaurant parking lot and taking off on a normal road.

There’s no runway in sight in this remote area of Alaska, so you don’t expect it to just fly off, especially after very minimal taxiing time.

The internet’s reaction is one of disbelief, and commenters expressed how impressed they were by the minimal warm-up the plane had before taking off.

A customer leaves a restaurant in Alaska on a plane

No one in this small town in Alaska could believe their eyes when they saw this customer leave a restaurant and head home.

Instead of hopping into their daily driver, they actually hopped into their tiny airplane and flew off over a busy road.

It taxied out of the restaurant’s parking lot and looked like any old car that was going to turn into and join the traffic.

With no runway in sight, the tiny aircraft took off with very little warm-up and took off with only about five seconds of taxiing along a main road.

“This is VIOLENTLY Alaskan”

The little airplane looks like a Cessna 180/185 Skywagon – a classic taildragger bush airplane that can take off with a very short run-up.

It’s perfect for Alaska because it can be fitted with skis, tundra tires, or floats, perfect for the wilderness, and it’s often referred to as the ‘pickup truck of the sky’.

Commenters on the video, when it went viral on Reddit, were impressed by the short taxi and almost vertical take off.

“Let’s be honest, though, that’s pretty impressive,” one comment read.

Another commenter described the situation as ‘VIOLENTLY Alaskan’.

A third said: “I don’t think he cares if it’s legal or not. It’s Alaska.”

Whether it’s legal or not, it’s pretty darn cool.
