In the northern England countryside, there’s a village that has garnered a reputation for two things – soccer players and supercars.

Alderley Edge is no metropolis, but the main road is a gallery of supercar excellence, from Lamborghinis to Ferraris and everything in between.

It’s no wonder then that the village has become a gathering point for car spotters.

I headed down there to get a feel of the car scene, and I walked away stunned by what I’d seen – and heard.

The UK is no slouch when it comes to supercar presence

When you think of British cars, your mind might drift to something opulent like a Rolls-Royce or quaint like a Mini Cooper.

Loud supercars might not immediately spring to mind for international observers.

But the supercar scene in the UK is alive and thriving – just look at London.

Whether it’s Saudi billionaires flying in their fleets of golden supercars or Lando Norris driving through in his Ferrari F40, there’s a huge presence of supercar royalty in the capital.

But that doesn’t stop at the city’s outer paramters.

More than 150 miles northward is a village that is renowned for supercars – despite having less than 5,000 residents.

Alderley Edge – a village famous for both its soccer players and its supercars

Located south of Manchester, Alderley Edge is an affluent village in the county of Cheshire.

Wealth intelligence firm WealthInsight once ranked the town eighth richest among small towns in Britain, estimating that between 300 and 500 millionaires lived there.

It’s no wonder then that soccer players take up residence in the ‘Knightsbridge of the North’.

David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Rio Ferdinand have called the village home at one point.

And if there’s one things soccer players love, it’s supercars.

Alderley Edge delivers on that front in the bucketloads.

The car spotters who flock to Alderley Edge every weekend for the promise of supercars

I visited Alderley Edge on a Sunday afternoon, and it didn’t take long for supercars to greet me.

In between the coffee shops and boutiques, supercars sat casually like they’re part of the scenery.

Even when sitting in the middle of a tranquil park, the roar of a Lamborghini was never too far away.

It’s a far cry from what one might expect of a leafy suburban English village.

On a grassy patch next to a idyllic English church, a group of car spotters have gathered, with cameras in tow.

They skew young and they’re here for the day, intending on getting shots of the best supercars to roar by.

There’s another group further up the road by a roundabout leading onto the highway, but these guys by the church have picked the prime spot.

I approached, aware that I was an outsider to their group.

Fortunately, they were friendly and I didn’t have much trouble getting an interview.

I spoke with Joe, a 20-year-old car spotter who runs a page called js.supercars.

He’s been doing this for six to seven years, but his love of cars started earlier than that.

“When I was a kid, my parents used to take me to car shows and things around the area,” he told Supercar Blondie.

“But then I found some videos of people who’ve [car] spotted here, and when I realized how close it was to where I live, I was like ‘Oh, let’s go there’.”

The village is a regular congregation spot for car lovers in the region, featuring regularly on YouTube channels like Supercars In Manchester and Supercars of Cheshire.

A regular day of car spotting would see Joe set up shop at around 10 in the morning and stay around until 6pm.

“[Alderley Edge] is probably one of the only places in the country where you can see cars of this level out in the wild,” he said.

“It’s great going to events and things, but if you’re in a showroom or behind barriers and things, to see them actually on the road driving kind of adds another aspect.”

His preference for cars leans towards Bugattis, but he’s open to other brands coming by.

“We get Bugattis, Paganis, anything over a million pounds is really special,” he said.

“I’d say the best car I’ve seen while doing this is maybe a Pagani Utopia or a Pagani Zonda. Paganis are very special, they’re very good to see.”

What soccer players have been seen driving in their cars?

SupercarsinManchester has been shooting cars in Alderley Edge since 2014 when he realized it was ‘the no brainer best place to see nice cars’.

“Yes it’s definitely a gathering place for car spotters,” he told Supercar Blondie.

“For the most part it’s a good community bar the divide between spotters that like the luxury and supercars and the spotters that just like to see cars doing stupid stunts.”

Over the years, he’s seen plenty of big names in soccer come by.

“[I’ve seen] Ederson in a Lamborghini Aventador, Mo Salah in a McLaren 765LT, Raheem Sterling in a Rolls-Royce, and Erling Haaland in a Ferrari 812 Competizione A,” he recalled.

I also spoke to a dealership that sells a lot of prestige cars in Alderley Edge

Benz Bavarian is one of the dealerships catering to the supercar needs of Alderley Edge residents.

That’s despite the fact it’s 46 miles away, in a town called Duffield.

“Duffield’s like the Alderley Edge of Derbyshire,” Felix Frixou, the managing director of Benz Bavarian, told Supercar Blondie.

Prestige cars covered by Benz Bavarian include Ferraris, McLarens, Lamborghinis, Audis, and Porsches – all the sorts of car that line the streets of Alderley Edge.

“They want to deal with a garage that’s been established a long time,” Frixou said, referencing the 39 years of experience his dealership has.

“I think a lot people go by look and noise [when choosing a car]. But you can’t define it solely by that, as we’re selling a lot of Porsche Taycans at the moment.”

While Alderley Edge may not have the year-round sunshine that Beverley Hills have, this is a very British vision of affluence.

Even if you’re not a supercar enthusiast, it’s still a village with plenty to offer in the way of shopping and food.

And if you are into supercars, you may well think you’ve died and gone to Heaven.
