A new government bill means America could get supersonic flights for the first time in 52 years.
Certain people within the administration are pushing for super-speedy supersonic flights.
This is good news for aviation companies developing new tech.
But, there’s one requirement: They have to be quiet.

Supersonic travel is the aim of many aircraft companies.
For example, in recent months, China tested a commercial supersonic prototype plane at twice the speed of Concorde.
Plus, the Boom Supersonic CEO even said earlier this year that the company has cracked supersonic flight with ‘no audible sonic boom’ – which was big news in the aviation world.
But despite all the advancements in supersonic activity, rules and laws in America mean there have been restrictions on these planes for many years.
That may all be about to change, however, as a new bill proposed by the administration could revolutionize airplane travel forever.
It all hangs on one premise, though – the sound of the supersonic boom being oh so quiet.
A special bill titled “Supersonic Aviation Modernization Act” was proposed by North Carolina Senator, Ted Budd.
It will allow planes ‘within the national airspace system’ to travel ‘at a Mach number greater than 1 so long as the aircraft is operated in such a manner that no sonic boom reaches the ground in the United States.’
If it ends up coming into effect, the FAA will have 12 months to prepare the skies for being taken over by supersonic flights.
This is great news, of course, for all the aviation giants proposing their speedy plans, like these Chinese researchers who unveiled a supersonic aircraft so silent it makes less noise than a car.
Who knows, if the new piece of legislation ends up being passed, maybe Mr Budd will drink a gin and tonic to celebrate feeling supersonic.
