This American dropped nearly $2 million customizing a Ferrari 412.
It was a process undertaken by Otsuta Maxwell Design (OMD) in San Diego.
And the end result of this hefty customizing job was out of this world.
In fact, there’s a good chance it could now be the most valuable Ferrari 412 ever made.

San Diego shop completely changes Ferrari 412
This Ferrari is far from an ordinary Maranello offering.
The owner, an unnamed American, has spent an incredible amount of money on this car.
In fact, he has spent upwards of $1.8 million on the build, which took Otsuta Maxwell Design (OMD) more than 5,000 hours to complete.
The San Diego shop completely re-built this Ferrari 412 from head to toe.
And the highlight of the show has to be what lies under the hood.
Nestled beneath the surface is Ferrari’s 6.5 liter V12 behemoth.
It is, in fact, the same engine you will find in an 812 Superfast.
Custom valve covers have been fitted in order to give the engine a more retro appearance.
And the power overhaul is only just beginning.
New port injection replaces the old direct injection system.
OMD also fitted twelve individual throttle bodies, as well as a tailored carbon fiber air intake and airbox.
What makes this Ferrari really stand out
Paired to the newly-developed powerplant is a gated six-speed manual.
As you probably know, the Ferrari 812 was never sold with a manual transmission.
So OMD got creative with the automatic gearbox of a 599 GTB.
The firm then morphed the automatic into a manual gearbox.
Furthermore, the visual changes are equally as dramatic.

The exterior has been painted in a Superfast Gold and black colorway.
Fenders have also been flared, while the bumpers have been tucked in.
Custom 18-inch Brixton forged wheels complete the radically overhauled exterior.
Of course, no custom job would be complete without changing the interior.
And it is here that some of the most striking changes have been made.

It has been entirely transformed and overhauled with plush Alcantara and new leather.
Arguably the most notable addition to the interior features Mongolian Cashmere.
It costs about $1,000 per yard, in case you were wondering.
When you see this project in its entirely, it is easy to see how the bill racks up so quickly.
To the owner’s credit, this is one of the most completely executed builds we’ve ever seen.
