This Southern California road, Sylmar’s Gravity Hill, is known nationwide as America’s most haunted road.

According to drivers, their cars start climbing uphill without any driver intervention.

There are also reports of drivers hearing disembodied screams after seeing ‘childlike’ apparitions.

The urban legend surrounding the road also involves a school bus full of children who perished many years ago.

America’s most haunted road

According to the urban legend, the ghosts of the children push cars away from danger.

The haunted road where drivers experience this also happens to be next to a cemetery.

Several accidents have also taken place on this road several decades before, but there’s a scientific reason behind the cars moving on their own.

In reality, the haunted road is a gravity hill, an optical illusion caused by an obstruction of the horizon line.

When a horizon line is blocked, it becomes difficult for a person to judge the slope of a surface.

Without a reliable reference point and misleading visual cues, an optical illusion is created where a slight downhill slope appears to be an uphill slope.

Urban legend and ghost stories

These kinds of places are often accompanied by claims that magnetic or supernatural forces are at work.

However, these kinds of stories are often created by people themselves and with time turn into urban legends.

If you like these kinds of paranormal tales, there are a lot of other haunted stories in the automotive world.

Just recently, a trucker managed to capture a mysterious ghostly figure on a dashcam while driving on an empty road.

There’s also a story about a haunted Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow in India.

These kinds of stories are often featured on shows like Paranormal Caught on Camera, which also covered this particular haunted road.

On the show, comedian Saud Bekissel said the ghosts are also helping drivers skip a trip to the gas station (by pushing the cars).
